Chelsey Friedman, a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Headland, in Judson Baptist Association and a senior at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, went to East Asia with Campus Crusade for Christ May 18–July 2.
“Honestly I didn’t want to go to Asia,” Friedman said.
However, at Unveiled2008, Campus Crusade’s Christmas conference in Atlanta held Dec. 29–Jan. 2, she felt God calling her to spend her summer telling others about Jesus in Asia.
Friedman, along with 22 others, went to a city about the size of New York, enrolled in a college, lived on the campus and built relationships with the students.
“Our goal was to share Christ with the students there,” she said. “It was strictly an evangelistic-oriented missions trip.”
During its six-week stay, the team saw 62 decisions for Christ. Friedman led three of those people to Christ and was able to disciple each one.
“We got to see the true authentic power of the gospel. It was a life-changing experience,” she said.
“I never expected to fall in love with Asia but I did,” Friedman said. “I left a big chunk of my heart there, and it would give me no greater joy than to go there and reclaim that piece of my heart again one day.”
