First Church, Montgomery, celebrated its 180th anniversary Nov. 15. The history of the church was promoted and featured former Pastors Basil Manly and Isaac Tichenor of the Civil War era. The morning service featured a slide presentation and an orchestra performance. There was an afternoon lecture program with a historical panel discussion on Manly and Tichenor with guest panelists Basil Manly IV, a fourth generation nephew of Manly, and Dale Huff. The evening service was held in the historic Stakely Sanctuary and featured hymns from Basil Manly Sr. and Jr.’s “Baptist Psalmody.” Jay Wolf is pastor.
