FBC Trussville girl wins country/gospel music awards

Twelve-year-old Carrie Ann Smallwood is on her way to fulfilling her dream of one day performing at the Grand Ole Opry.

On Oct. 17, Carrie Ann, a member of First Baptist Church, Trussville, in Birmingham Baptist Association, won the 2009 Alabama Country and Gospel Music Association (ACGMA) championship in her division for the third consecutive year. She took home the Vocalist, Instrumentalist and Entertainer of the Year awards. She also was named the Young Ambassador of the Year for ACGMA.

As a result of her win, Carrie Ann will compete for the third time in the North American Country Music Associations, International, in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., next March. She has won the vocalist and instrumentalist categories the past two years.

Carrie Ann is the daughter of Sunny Smallwood, who was named Mother of the Year by ACGMA, and the granddaughter of retired Judge Tennant M. and Shirley Smallwood, of Trussville.
