Over the next few weeks, Alabama Baptists have the opportunity to pack “Buckets of Hope” with specific necessities for Haitians who desperately need provisions.
"These are food-supplement kits that will be assembled and sent to Haiti with very specific items in them packed in a very specific way,” said Mel Johnson, disaster relief strategist for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions.
For about $30, an individual or church can buy a plastic five-gallon bucket and pack it with specific provisions like rice, cooking oil and flour. For full list of items and instructions on how to pack the bucket, visit http://www.alsbom.org/haiti. The site contains pdf and video instructions.
Buckets will be collected at drop-off points around the state (see list below) March 4–5 and taken from those points to Montgomery, where they will be packed and shipped to Miami.
From Miami, buckets gathered from different states will be taken to Haiti.
“These will help target absolute needs on the ground there,” Johnson said.
Drop-off points:
* Florence – Highland Baptist Church
* Huntsville – University Baptist Church
* Gadsden – Etowah Baptist Association office
* Birmingham – Birmingham Baptist Association office
* Montgomery – Vaughn Forest Baptist Church
* Ozark – Southside Baptist Church
* Frisco City – Bethlehem Baptist Association Learning Center
* Demopolis – Fairhaven Baptist Church
* Daphne – Eastern Shore Baptist Church
