FBC Pelham pastor honored for work with Scouts

Mike Shaw, pastor of First Baptist Church, Pelham, was honored Feb. 7 at the Shelby Baptist Association church with the Boy Scouts of America’s (BSA) Good Shepherd Emblem for outstanding service and dedication to youth programs.

Under Shaw’s leadership, First, Pelham, invests in two Scout troops: Boy Scout Troop 404 and Cub Scout Pack 404. The award presentation was made in conjunction with this year’s Scout Sunday, honoring BSA’s 100 years.

Shaw said he remembers camping with BSA when it marked 50 years. “While much has changed in 50 years, I appreciate the fact that Scouting has not changed its character,” he said. “I admire the values of Scouting such as integrity, moral character and reverence toward God.”

The Good Shepherd Emblem, awarded through Association of Baptists for Scouting and the BSA’s Greater Alabama Council, recognizes men and women who have intentionally invested in Baptist youth through their churches and national Scout agencies.
