Corporal Punishment

Corporal Punishment

It is time to stop corporal punishment in the Alabama school system. I have been a substitute teacher in the system for the past eight years and have seen corporal punishment administered to many students. Many times the punishment was administered by the teacher in anger and not used as a corrective measure. I watched as a 6’6” 250-pound teacher whipped an eighth-grade female student with a two-foot long, four-inch wide, 1/2-inch thick paddle.

It is time to stop corporal punishment in the Alabama school system and all of the United States schools. Only 20 states allow corporal punishment in their school system. Years ago corporal punishment was stopped in the military or in prisons. It is time to stop corporal punishment in the Alabama school system and all of the United States schools.
