A group of nearly 100 students and adults from First Baptist Church, Huntsville, in Madison Baptist Association, participated in the church’s 11th annual summer missions trip to Perry County May 29–June 6. Mike Pearce, minister of missions and outreach of First, Huntsville, said the church has committed itself to Perry County with a goal to help raise the standard of living and to provide a strong witness to one of the poorest counties in the nation.
The past 10 years the group served in Perry County they worked primarily on construction projects, but this year they added service projects.
During the week they stayed at Judson College in Marion, where they worked to replace ceilings, clean dorms and revamp the surrounding areas. The team shared the gospel with 75 kids who attended a one-day sports camp organized by their group and held a Memorial Day piano concert organized by First, Huntsville’s organist. The concert was not only to honor those who served the United States, but also to minister to the people within the community.
During the week they partnered with Sowing Seeds of Hope in Marion as they worked to spruce up nearby homes and community churches.
