Fifteen women representing the Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) of five Autauga Baptist Association churches recently took their second associational missions trip to Blackey, Ky., which is located in an area where more than 80 percent of the population is unchurched.
“The purpose of the trip was to give ladies an opportunity to experience serving Jesus outside their comfort zones,” said Diane Causey, associational WMU director.
North American Mission Board missionaries Jamie and Rachael Reynolds, who serve at Calvary Campus, a Christian retreat and education center in Letcher, Ky., organized the May 30–June 5 trip.
The missions team spent its mornings working with the Blackey Senior Center, sharing the gospel through an adult Vacation Bible School program. In the afternoons, the team split into two groups. One group read to children in the local elementary school, and the other group cleaned at Calvary Campus. At the end of the week, the team hosted a block party at Blackey Baptist Church.
