Brent Reeves is transitioning from church preaching to church planting. The former pastor of Parkway Baptist Church, Auburn, will be planting a church with the North American Mission Board in Orting, Wash.
“I am expecting God to enable us to build a healthy church,” Reeves said. “Our mission is to lead irreligious individuals to become contagious Christians.”
Parkway member Louis Kennedy said missions work is a passion of Reeves. “The church’s involvement in missions work has always been an important goal and a desire of his heart,” Kennedy said. “He’s always thought that there’s a place for him and his family in missions.”
Reeves said moving to Washington was difficult after being a part of Parkway for seven years. “I will miss so many wonderful friends. Melodye and I have been loved and have a deep attachment to so many of the people at Parkway.”
Matthew Harding, minister of college evangelism at Parkway, said Reeves made the staff feel “loved, appreciated and equipped to do their jobs. I have never seen a pastor with more dedication.”
Reeves’ wife, Melodye, and his children, Amanda, Lauren, Natalie, and Joshua, moved with him.
“I believe he has a vision for what we are about to do,” Melodye Reeves said. “I feel strongly that he is gifted to do the task ahead, and I know he has a visionary attitude and exciting dreams for reaching a lost city for Christ. Brent loves lost people. And, with God’s help, planting the gospel is the thing he does best.”
Reeves graduated from Samford University in 1985. He attended Mid-America Seminary in Memphis, Tenn., and graduated from Beeson Divinity School. He was ordained at Ruleville Baptist Church in Mississippi in 1988.
