Q: What was your childhood like?
A: I was raised in Bessemer by Christian parents, who are wonderful. My father sang in a gospel quartet called the Jubileans, and my mom was a wonderful Christian example to all of us kids. As far back as I can remember, music was always a part of our lives.
Q: When did you come to know the Lord?
A: I was saved at the age of 8 at my home church, Hopewell Baptist in Bessemer, and I rededicated my life at the age of 18.
Q: How have you been involved in church through the years?
A: I’ve been singing in the church since I was a teenager in youth choir. As an adult, I have been involved with the choir and sang in an ensemble at our church. For around 15 years, I worked with teenagers in the church, and now I lead worship on Wednesday nights at Union Hill Baptist Church and sing solos during Sunday services sometimes.
Q: What have you gotten from that involvement?
A: I have a strong faith in God, and I am so thankful for the chance to lead worship in the church. Doing this has taken me out of my comfort zone, and it has helped me to grow spiritually and as a leader.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in church in the future?
A: I hope to become more involved in leading worship, and I would love to work with senior adults down the road. I’m not sure in what way at this point, maybe planning activities for them and things like that.
