The Student Government Association (SGA) of the University of Mobile has worked with university administration to implement Google Apps for Education as an integrated communication and collaboration solution.
Google Apps will replace rammail, the current student e-mail system, with additional features including e-mail, calendars, document sharing and communication via voice and video chat. The official debut was Jan. 4.
Katie Allred, secretary of technological advancement for the SGA, has been working with other university representatives since the beginning of 2010 to implement the Google Apps system. Allred believes the system will be beneficial for both students and the university by providing a cheaper, more efficient means of communication and collaboration already in use by many universities.
Students are encouraged to begin forwarding e-mail from their rammail inbox to their new Gmail account, which bears the umobile.edu domain name.
