After the historic storms that swept through the Southeast on April 27, Alabama Baptist disaster relief teams are on the field ministering to all affected by the disaster.
“For Alabama, this is our Katrina,” said Rick Lance, executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM).
The tornadoes have left the affected communities with great need.
“Responding to this critical situation following the historic series of tornadoes in our state will require supporting human resources on the ground and financial assistance to damaged and destroyed churches, so they can be functional and offer help in the name of Christ to the hurting people around them,” he said.
One of the greatest needs now is financial assistance. “I appeal to Alabama Baptists to give, in the name of Christ, to the disaster relief offering through the State Board of Missions. All monies will be used to support the sacrificial work of the disaster relief teams and direct assistance to the numerous churches and the people to whom they minister,” Lance said.
Lance also encourages Alabama Baptists to remember the power of prayer. “Pray too for the people affected. May the God of Psalm 46 be our refuge and strength in this time of trouble,” he added.
