Alabamians David Mark and Mie Hirai Busby were among 52 others recently appointed by the Southern Baptist International Mission Board (IMB) to serve as missionaries to the Western Pacific.
David, 34, was born in Osaka, Japan. They are both current members of Southcrest Baptist Church in Bessemer.
While David serves as a strategy coordinator for the IMB, Mie will serve in the community and home outreach program.
Before becoming missionaries, they both had jobs as tutors at Honda, Inc., in Birmingham.
David has also worked as an English teacher as a Second Language teacher for the Shelby County Education Board, youth minister at Southcrest and an IMB career missionary to Japan.
David graduated with a bachelor of arts in religion from Samford University and received his divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Mie has worked as an assistant manager at Tokyo Sports Oasis in Japan.
She graduated from the University of Findlay in Ohio with a degree in business in May of 1995.
David and Mie began orientation for their careers as International Mission Board missionaries March 11.
