IMB appoints Birmingham couple to field

Two Baptists with strong Alabama ties were recently appointed to serve as International Mission Board (IMB) missionaries in the Western Pacific.

Jeff and Kimberly Burns of Dublin, Ga., were appointed by the IMB May 7. Jeff will serve through evangelism and church planting, and Kimberly will work through communication and home outreach.

Jeff, 38, was born in Birmingham. He received his bachelor’s degree from Samford University and his master’s in religious education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

He worked as a Christian comedian, youth minister and singles minister in Texas and then served as associate pastor of youth and recreation at Dudley Baptist Church in Dudley, Ga.

Kim, 33, was born in Athens, Ga. She received her bachelor’s from Samford University. She worked as a secretary at Southwestern from 1993-1997.

In Georgia she served as a special instructor and service coordinator for a company called Contract with Babies Can’t Walk. Jeff and Kim married in 1991. They have three children: Hudson, 5; Joseph, 2; and Caleb, 9 months.
