A few nights ago an interesting thing happened. It was during Vacation Bible School.

When I reached the church and found that the overnight material I had ordered from Sampson Ministry Resources had not arrived, I was ruffled. More participants in the adult section was a good problem to have. The shipping manager had promised I would have them.

The name of the course was, “How to Make Children Mind Without Losing Yours.” I was about to lose mine, so I picked up the phone to trace my order.

It was getting late  and the chances of any delivery after the sun goes down were mild.

Dallas, Texas, sounded a way off as I tried to explain my plight to the gentleman on the phone.

He was calm and collected and asked many questions. I answered as well as I could looking at the clock. The phone was sweaty in my hand as I waited for what seemed like hours for him to check the tracking number.

“We do this all the time, Mrs. Baggott, and I know it was sent and should have gotten there. Have you looked everywhere possible that the package might have been left?”

Not only had I looked, but I had the young people searching the back porch of the missionary house next door, the front porch, every nook and corner possible.

In his nice manner, he offered to do several other things and told me after he checked he would call back and tell me the results. All the time, doing everything but getting in the car and driving from Dallas to bring the small package with 13 more books.

Before we hung up, I said, “Please give me your name. You have been so kind to me and I know it is late and you were no doubt headed out the door to go home. (He had already explained that he was the only left in the building. The shipping manager was gone.) I want to write your boss and tell him how comforting you have been.

“Mrs. Baggott, I am Dan Sampson, owner of Sampson Ministry Resources. I am glad I could help you.”

No wonder this company does the volume of business it does, with the head man taking time to talk to the “little people.” Most companies would have offered a computer.

Thank you, Mr. Sampson! We found the package next door behind the screen door.
