Consider allergy needs on spring travels

Preparing your car and yourself for travel can ease travel worries and prevent emergencies. Here are some ways to make travel safe and avoid those spring allergies.

Spring allergies: The beach is usually a good spring choice for allergy sufferers, but if a garden tour is on your itinerary, prepare ahead to ward off allergy attacks.

Use air conditioning in the car and keep your hotel windows closed. Before arriving at your vacation spot, scout the nearest emergency facilities, and be sure to take an ample supply of medication. If you run out of your prescription medication, contact a local pharmacy and ask if they will fill your prescription over the phone via your doctor at home.

Remain indoors from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m.-peak pollen hours. Check the daily weather report to anticipate pollen levels, and remember that the pollen count falls significantly immediately following a rain shower.

Safety first: A pre-trip automobile checkup can prevent an abrupt end to vacation plans. Make sure your vehicle’s system chemicals- antifreeze, coolant, transmission, brake and power steering fluids- are prepared to protect the engine and operating systems.

Extremely low coolant system levels may indicate that you have a leaky hose or loose radiator hose clamp. Cooling system failure is a leading cause of engine-related breakdowns.

Rotate your tires regularly. This is especially important when you are driving on the wet roads that are typical of spring.
