AlabamaCBF coordinator Gray resigns

Mart Gray, coordinator of Alabama Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (AlabamaCBF) since 1997, has resigned from his post to become full-time pastor of Covenant Community Church, Elba, a congregation he has served bivocationally since its beginning in 2004.

Gray’s ministry began in 1977, when, at the age of 15, he was called to serve Calvary Baptist Church, Wetumpka, as minister of music and minister of music and youth in three other churches.

He is a graduate of Samford University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Gray and his wife, Mary, have two sons – Will, 15, and John, 9.

A native of Wetumpka, Gray is the youngest CBF state coordinator. He helped start Sowing Seeds of Hope, a ministry to those living in poverty in Perry County. The work became a catalyst for what is now the Rural Poverty Initiative of National CBF and serves as a model for other areas of the nation.

Gray will serve as coordinator through the end of 2005.
