A continuing interest in faith and medicine has spawned a two-part conference that will focus on establishing congregational health ministries in churches.

The program is being co-sponsored by Samford University’s Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing and Baptist Health System.

The workshop will be geared toward clergy, nurses, health care professionals, chaplains, physicians and others interested in promoting health and healing through health ministries and parish nursing.

“The Congregation as a Health Place- Developing a Health Ministry in Your Congregation,” will consist of two sessions.

The first session will be held Sept. 28 at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church, 7-9 p.m. This conference will focus on the vision of the congregation as a place to promote health and healing.

The second session, a health workshop, will be held Sept. 29 at Hunter Street Baptist Church, Hoover, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
This segment will focus on the congregation as a place to promote health and healing, parish nursing and its philosophy and the steps toward beginning a health ministry in a congregation. Participants will also have the opportunity to network with colleagues and develop a vision for health ministries in their congregations.

There is a $10 registration fee that will include attendance at both sessions and lunch. Deadline for registration is Sept. 22. To register, send a check made out to “Congregational Health” to Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing, Samford University, 800 Lakeshore Dr., Birmingham, AL 35229-2295, attention of Gretchen McDaniel. For more information call McDaniel at 205-726-2626.
