Rod Marshall has been named the new president and CEO of the Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes & Family Ministries (ABCH), effective Feb. 1, 2012.
He was unanimously selected during the ministry’s Nov. 11 board meeting.
Marshall is currently vice president of counseling for ABCH.
He began working with the agency in 1995, as a licensed professional counselor, and became the director of Pathways Professional Counseling in 1999.
Licensed by the state of Alabama as a professional counselor, Marshall is also a board-certified counseling supervisor, a registered play therapist, a registered play therapist supervisor, a national certified counselor and a board-certified professional Christian counselor.
Marshall earned his bachelor of arts in religion and human relations at Samford University in Birmingham and his master of arts and educational specialist in community counseling at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
He completed additional graduate studies in counselor education at Mississippi State University in Starkville.
Search committee chairman and former chair of the ABCH board Dr. Merrill Barron said while there were many qualities that recommended Marshall to the committee, his experience was a key factor in its decision.
“We felt that his years of service to the ministry and the part he has played in developing the statewide counseling ministry of ABCH well prepared him for this leadership role,” Barron said.
Marshall will replace current President and CEO Paul Miller, who will retire Jan. 31, 2012, after 39 years with the ministry.
“Rod is a very experienced, knowledgeable and capable child care professional, and I am confident he will provide excellent leadership,” Miller said.
Marshall said, “I am honored and humbled to have been selected by the trustees of ABCH to succeed Paul Miller as the next president/CEO of this great ministry.
“I sincerely thank you for the opportunity to provide leadership into the next chapter of the wonderful story of Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes & Family Ministries. My prayer is that I, like many before me, will simply be found a good and faithful servant.” (ABCH)
