Cullman’s Southside Baptist celebrates 25 years

Purple, green, blue and yellow filled the sky in Cullman on Nov. 20 as Southside Baptist Church released 100 helium-filled balloons.

The West Cullman Baptist Association church was celebrating 25 years of existence with more than 120 people in attendance — nearly double the normal Sunday crowd.

Dale Huff, director of the office of LeaderCare and church administration for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM), shared a message from Acts.

Nancy Beasley, a representative of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, presented Southside Baptist with a commemorative certificate.

As members shared what Southside means to them, a video played in the background featuring pictures of the church and its members through the years. The pictures ranged from the SBOM mobile chapel the church met in before the building was completed to Vacation Bible School to choir presentations.

Pastor Perry Knight said the day was “celebratory.” He hopes for future growth at Southside and is confident he will see it because of the church’s “sweet fellowship” and “a very present Spirit of the Lord.” He also hopes to continue to see the church’s children grow into adult leadership roles and be “faithful in their ministries.”

Paulette Wilcutt, a Southside member for 24 years, served on the anniversary committee. “Everyone was in agreement and everyone seemed to enjoy it from the beginning to the end,” she said. “A few people planned [the celebration], but there was something that everyone enjoyed and felt like they were a part of.”
