As 551 steaks were grilled Jan. 19, there was much more than dinner being prepared for the men attending the event at Gardendale First Baptist Church.
The message of “Courageous” was what Allen Oakley, minister of adult education and discipleship, wanted men to walk away with after their steak and movie night.
After the movie, Pastor Kevin Hamm gave a brief message and invitation. He asked for any man who had just accepted Christ to be “courageous” and stand up, drawing from a similar scene in the film that challenges men to draw closer to God.
Five men stood up.
But the challenge didn’t stop when they left the building. Many men chose to participate in a four-week “Courageous” curriculum small group.
“I think it will make better men, better homes, better husbands,” Oakley said.
