Retrospective slideshows, anniversary booklets and a heartfelt message were all components of the 50th church anniversary celebration for First Baptist Church, Creola. The celebration took place June 3 at the Mobile Baptist Association church.
The 135 people in attendance included former members who came to celebrate the milestone. Also in attendance were the seven charter members, five of which are still active church members.
Event organizer Marilyn Middleton said the celebration began at 10 a.m. with songs led by Charles Steelman, guest minister of music and former musician for the church.
The day’s message included remarks from former pastor Charles Mitchell.
Another special element was the dedication of the church anniversary booklet. “We … made a church anniversary booklet that illustrated the history of the church,” Middleton said. “The book was dedicated to Beulah Hopkins Langham, an instrumental woman in the church who recently passed away.”
Pastor Al Brown was presented with a plaque from an Alabama Baptist Historical Commission representative. The plaque commemorated the church’s 50 years.
Brown, who will mark two years as the church’s pastor in July, said his vision for First, Creola, is to continue to grow.
“I just want to see the church prosper, grow and continue to fulfill the Great Commission,” he said. “We here are actively pursuing the Great Commission in Creola and beyond.”
