Baptist Health System gains three trustees

The Birmingham Baptist Association (BBA) recently named three new Baptist Health System (BHS) trustees.

They are Homer M. Lloyd, Jr., a First Baptist Church, Irondale, member; Doris K. Sewell, a First Baptist Church, Trussville, member and Neil Glausier, a Shades Mountain Baptist Church, Vestavia Hills, member.

“As our health ministry moves forward, we are pleased to have the insight and experience brought by these three outstanding people,” said Beth O’Brien, president and CEO of BHS.

Lloyd was a BHS trustee 1981–2002 and trustee chairman 1987–1988 and 1993–1995. He was chairman of the BBA’s executive committee 2002–2003 and is a past member of BBA’s stewardship committee. He was a member of the American Hospital Association’s Committee on Governance, Health Systems Division 1991–1993. He was awarded the Alabama Hospital Association’s Distinguished Service Award in 2002.

Sewell has served as vice president of legal and corporate affairs for Pemco Aviation Group since 2000. For five years she was vice president/corporate counsel of Just For Feet, Inc. She was legal counsel for Bruno’s, Inc. 1990–1995.

The Mobile native is a 1984 graduate of Cumberland School of Law and holds degrees in business administration from Samford University.

Glausier, the new moderator of BBA, will serve as an ex-officio, nonvoting BHS trustee.

“Their (new trustees) knowledge and expertise will be most valuable to the organization in today’s challenging health care environment,” said Aubrey Miller, interim chairman of the BHS board.

BHS also named a number of physicians and other community leaders to serve on hospital advisory councils for Baptist Montclair, Princeton and Shelby as part of the health system’s strategic initiative to strengthen its mission as a community-focused health care provider.

Alabama Baptist pastors — Gary Hollingsworth, First Baptist Church, Trussville; James Moebes, Mountain Brook Baptist Church; Samuel Pettagrue, Sardis Baptist Church, Birmingham; and Charles Stroud, director of missions for Shelby Association — were named to the council. (BHS)
