Chronicler of Black Belt Civil Rights Struggle to Speak at Judson College

Former Marion resident Lila Quintero Weaver will return to Judson College Nov. 7–8 as a guest lecturer in several classes and do a book-signing for “Darkroom: A Memoir in Black and White.”

“Darkroom,” a graphic novel, focuses on the racial attitudes that Weaver encountered as a child and the civil rights events her family witnessed during the 1960s.

Weaver will speak at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Nov. 7 and at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 8. The book signing will be in the Gladys Dunkin Parlors from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 8.

Born in Buenos Aires, Weaver immigrated with her family to the United States in 1961. She received her bachelor’s degree from New College at the University of Alabama and resides in Northport with her husband, Paul.
