KADUNA, Nigeria — Baptist World Aid (BWAid) has sent $5,000, with the promise of more to come, to help the churches and pastors of Kaduna, Nigeria, repair destruction of their properties.
The leader of Baptists in Nigeria — Solomon Ademola Ishola, general secretary of the Nigerian Baptist Convention — reported to the Baptist World Alliance that during the last year, 19 Baptist churches were among 100 churches destroyed or vandalized in the city because of Muslim vandals.
Four pastors died, one of them a retired Baptist pastor, and many were seriously injured. More than 100 are hospitalized with 37 in police custody.
Two years ago when the Baptist seminary was destroyed by hoodlums, BWAid sent $5,000 to help them rebuild, and the seminary is open once again.
