How many new Christians start out on fire, with great intentions, but fall by the wayside like the seed that fell on stony ground? My guess is that the percentage is astounding — depressing, even. One solution to this problem may be in discipling new believers until they have matured as Christians.
Lewie Clark, who has spent much of his life discipling others, wrote this book at the insistence of friends who wanted to learn from him how to disciple others. It is not a formulaic, step-by-step guide, but is more of a snapshot of Clark’s ministry through some of the people he has discipled over the years, with commentary from the discipled and the discipler.
Clark begins with “disciple-making comes down to love and friendship. Get those two basic things right, and you can make disciples.”
This thread runs throughout the book as Clark explains how he approaches disciple-making and the reasons behind his actions. The end result is the realization that it really does come down to love and friendship — just as Jesus demonstrated in His life on Earth.
