Childersburg church focusing on purpose

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. — In the last few years Grace Baptist Church, Childersburg, adopted a plan to strengthen believers and reach the world for Christ based on Ephesians 4, John 17 and Acts 2:42–47. These verses teach importance of fellowship, discipleship, worshiping, evangelizing and growing in ministry.

In fall 2002, Pastor Frank Thomas met with church leaders to outline the New Testament purposes. They held discussion groups, elders meetings and deacons meetings. And the pastor reinforced the process with comments from the pulpit.

The independent Baptist church soon implemented new Sunday School materials to support the new plan. The music follows a contemporary style while keeping a choir. Different translations of verses are used when appropriate to help all members understand passages from the Bible.

“By changing the methods — being contemporary without compromising the message and by following Christ’s example of ministering to the people where they are — our services became more alive,” Thompson said. Grace Baptist Church also hopes to organize support groups that are biblically based and spiritually discerning.
