Alabamians nominated for SBC boards

Several Alabamians were included in the nominees to serve on the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) Executive Committee, the four denominational boards — International Mission Board, North American Mission Board, LifeWay Christian Resources and Annuity Board — the Ethics & Religious Liberty Com­mission, the six seminaries and the committee on order of business selected by the 2003 committee on nominations. Nominees will serve if elected by the messengers to the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention, June 17–18 in Phoenix.

Alabamians nominated:

Samuel E. (Sam) Brassell Jr., senior pastor of Southside Baptist Church, Dothan, was nominated to replace Herb T. Thomas of Tuscaloosa on the executive committee (82 members).

Frankie J. Smitherman, layperson and member of First Baptist Church, North Mobile, in Saraland, was nominated to replace John R. West of Auburn on the Annuity Board (45 members).

James W. Pruett, pastor of Concord Baptist Church, Bessemer, was nominated to replace Samuel Gene Dykes of Trussville on the International Mission Board. Laurelle M. Stoudenire, a layperson in Thomasville, was nominated for a second term (87 members).

Gary L. Hollingsworth, pastor of First Baptist Church, Trussville, was nominated for a second term on the North American Mission Board (58 members).

Stevan H. Parsons of Maytown was nominated to serve a second term on the board of Southern Seminary (65 members).

Larry C. Patterson of Silverhill was nominated to serve a second term on the board of New Orleans Seminary (40 members).

Ed Litton, senior pastor of First Baptist Church, North Mobile, in Saraland was nominated to replace Steven Oswalt of Aberdeen, N.J., to serve on the board of Southeastern Seminary (30 members).
