Unmet community needs challenge many Alabama churches. Faced with a need in their community,
Eastaboga Baptist Church members volunteered time and resources to meet the expressed need of Curry Station Inn, a home that cares for senior adults in Munford.
Established in 1999 by Linda and William Hearn, Curry Station Inn provides a Christian environment for its residents. Currently filled to capacity, Curry Station Inn houses eight women and, with the help of Eastaboga Church, is adding eight more beds to the facility.
With a growing waiting list, Mrs. Hearn is thankful for God’s provision. “Eastaboga is a loving and caring church, and this is just one way they show it. I thank God for sending Eastaboga Baptist Church to Curry Station Inn,” she said.
Members of Eastaboga Church have aided in the expansion at Curry Station Inn by providing construction assistance. A team of 11 men began construction. Subsequent trips by church members offered the expertise of plumbers and electricians. A company donated Sheetrock for the project at the request of a church member. The expansion is scheduled for completion early this year.
Mrs. Hearn, who attends Eastaboga Church, opened Curry Station Inn in response to God’s calling on her life. Whether providing residence for an abandoned mother or caring for an individual with no in-state relatives, Curry Station Inn seeks to demonstrate God’s love.
“It’s our opportunity to show love to the elderly members of our community. Our main goals are to reach people and their families for the Lord and to provide a warm, loving Christian environment,” Mrs. Hearn said.
The Hearns, who compose half of the staff, spend most of their time at the facility taking care of the residents and maintaining the building. They attempted to expand on their own in March 2001 but were unable to finish.
Although the expansion slowed, the Hearns were dedicated to finishing the project. “Where God guides, God provides,” Mrs. Hearn said.
God’s provision for Curry Station Inn included Eastaboga Baptist Church.
Ron White, deacon and Sunday School teacher at Eastaboga, led the FAITH visitation team that called on Linda Hearn after she had visited the church several times. This visit, which is part of the church’s evangelism outreach, led to the church’s involvement as Mrs. Hearn shared with the visitation team the story of Curry Station Inn and the current expansion project.
“Curry Station Inn is doing such a good job meeting a need in the community, we just wanted to help. The need was there, and we had the capability, so we gave the time,” White said.
