The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin
Gospo Centric Records
Kirk Franklin has gained a reputation as an artist who isn’t afraid to cross racial and musical boundaries to convey the message of the gospel. Past projects have demonstrated Franklin’s ability to join together a number of musical genres and artists to create songs that are appealing to a broad range of audiences. On his latest album, “The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin,” Franklin continues to tackle a number of musical styles while returning to the simplicity of his gospel roots. During one of the album’s interludes, Franklin confesses that he desires for the focus of his music to be on the ministry rather than the message.
“The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin” is blanketed by an overwhelming theme of hope in God’s power to transform our lives. Many of the songs were recorded live at a concert in Houston, Texas. These songs, which include the opening track “Hosanna,” invite the listener to join in worship along with those who attended the concert. Other highlights of the album include “911,” a track on which Franklin and Bishop T.D. Jakes express the emotions felt after the September 11 terrorist attacks, and “The Blood Song” featuring Donnie McClurkin, Crystal Lewis, and Jaci Velasquez.
This album is truly a rebirth for one of gospel music’s most electrifying artists. While it marks a musical rebirth for Franklin, the purpose of the album is to serve as an encouragement to all believers through its message of hope and renewal.
