Ministers’ Wives
The 45th annual Southern Baptist Ministers’ Wives Conference will be held June 13 at the Omni Rosen Hotel.
This year’s theme is, “Women of Influence,” and will feature Vonette Bright, the wife of Bill Bright and cofounder of Campus Crusade for Christ. Contemporary Christian vocalist Alicia Williamson will perform in concert.

Vonette Bright and her husband, Bill, launched Campus Crusade for Christ on the campus of UCLA in 1951. Today, Campus Crusade operates 50 different ministries involving a full-time staff of 17,000, plus trained volunteer staff of more than 200,000.
In 1971 the Great Commission Prayer Crusade was officially established under Vonette Bright’s leadership.
The Brights, who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1998, have two children and four grandchildren.

BWA
The Baptist World Alliance’s (BWA) “Window on the World” breakfast during this year’s Southern Baptist Convention will be at 7 a.m. June 14 at the Omni Rosen Hotel in Orlando, Fla.
Denton Lotz, BWA general secretary, will speak on “The Role of the BWA in the 21st Century.”

The Association of Southern Baptist Campus Ministers (ASBCM) will hold its 2000 summer conference June 11-12 at the Travelodge Main Gate East in Kissimmee, Fla.
This year’s theme is “The Season of Campus Ministry” and featured speakers include Arliss Dickerson, BSU director at Arkansas State University, and Jon Tadlock, state director of BSU in Virginia.

African Americans
The annual worship service and business meeting of the African American Fellowship of the Southern Baptist Convention will be June 11- 12 in Orlando, Fla.
March Croston, pastor of East End Baptist Church, Suffolk, Va., will be the featured speaker at 5 p.m. June 11 at Orlando’s Tangelo Baptist Church.
Joseph Lyles, president of the African American Fellowship and pastor of Fort Foote Baptist Church, Fort Washington, Md., will deliver the presidential address as part of the fellowship’s pastors meeting and annual luncheon beginning at 10 a.m. June 12 at the Omni Rosen Hotel, Orlando.

Southern
Southern Seminary will hold its annual alumni and friends luncheon June 14 in conjunction with the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Orlando, Fla.
The 12:30 p.m. luncheon will feature an address by Southern Seminary President R. Albert Mohler Jr. and will be held in the Orange County Convention Center’s Valencia Ballroom, Section C.
In addition to the president’s address, other seminary officials will provide updates on various aspects of the ministry of Southern Seminary, the SBC’s oldest seminary.

New Orleans
New Orleans Seminary’s annual Alumni and Friends Reunion will be a luncheon meeting June 14 during the Southern Baptist Convention in Orlando.
To begin at noon, the luncheon will be held in the Orange County Convention Center’s Valencia Ballroom, Section A, Level 4.
The meeting will include the annual “State of the Seminary” address by NOBTS President Chuck Kelley and the faculty’s annual presentation of the distinguished alumnus award.
Tickets, at $12 each, are on sale now by mail. Tickets also will be available at the SBC annual meeting at the NOBTS booth in the exhibit hall. Cost will be $15 per person at the door.

Southwestern
Homer G. Lindsay Jr., the longtime pastor of First Baptist, Jacksonville, Fla., will be honored posthumously as a distinguished alumnus of Southwestern Seminary at its national alumni luncheon June 14 in Orlando, Fla.
The other graduates who will be honored as distinguished alumni include O.S. Hawkins, Southern Baptist Convention Annuity Board president; Gary R. Cook, president of Dallas Baptist University; Lewis Drummond, evangelism professor from Samford University in Birmingham, and Eva Marie Kennard Dyke, a Bible teacher from Temple, Texas, who has worked in student ministries in five states.
In addition to honoring the five distinguished alumni award recipients, Southwestern President Kenneth S. Hemphill will give a progress report about the school.
The luncheon will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Orange County Convention Center, the site of the SBC annual meeting.

Southeastern
Southeastern Seminary’s 2000 National Alumni and Friends Luncheon will be June 14 in the Orlando Convention Center’s Valencia Ballroom, Section A, Level 4.
The luncheon will begin around 12:30 p.m., following the conclusion of the morning session of the Southern Baptist Convention.
National Alumni Association President Tom Rush will emcee the meeting. Southeastern administrators and faculty will share updates from the seminary during the past year.

Golden Gate
Golden Gate Seminary will host alumni and friends for the seminary’s annual luncheon June 14 following the morning session of the Southern Baptist Convention in Orlando, Fla.
Seminary President William O. Crews will present the Alumni Achievement Award to this year’s recipient and share a “state of the seminary” report along with other faculty members and regional campus directors.
The event will be held in the convention center, Room 303C, adjacent to the convention’s general proceedings.

Alumni and friends of Midwestern Seminary will gather at noon June 14 in Room 305 of Level 3 of the Orange County Convention Center for the annual alumni luncheon and an update on the seminary.
Among those to be honored are Ron Goombi of the Omaha (Neb.) Baptist Center and Jon Sapp, a Southern Baptist missionary to East Africa, both named as Alumni of the Year. Named Honorary Alumni of the Year are A.W. “Pete” and Jo Ann Butler, professor and associate professor of church music at Midwestern Seminary. He steps down this year as head of the music program at Midwestern but will continue to serve as senior professor of church music. Jo Ann Butler retired last year.

Retired chaplain and author Myron Madden will be the speaker for the North American Mission Board’s annual Chaplain’s Convocation from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 12 at First Baptist Church, Orlando, Fla. The theme will be “From the Heart of Myron Madden.”

Alabamians are among speakers slated to highlight the 39th annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Conference of Associational Directors of Missions.
Featured speakers include Calvin Miller of Samford University in Alabama; Wanda Lee, president of the Woman’s Missionary Union; leadership speaker John Maxwell of Atlanta; Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Community Church in California; and “Experiencing God” author Henry Blackaby.
The conference will be June 11-12 at the Radisson Universal Hotel in Orlando, Fla. This year’s theme is, “Your Association Empowered by Christ.”
The June 11 president’s address will be delivered by Ed Copeland, director of missions for the Greater Columbus Baptist Association in Columbus, Ohio.
The annual luncheon for retired directors and their spouses is scheduled at noon, June 12. The orientation for new directors of missions will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, with a dinner for them that day at 6 p.m.
For other directors of missions, a continuing education conference is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Monday. (BP)
