Hope Will Rise
Dream Records
Warr Acres, based out of Victory Church, Oklahoma City, Okla., has released its second studio project for Dream Records, “Hope Will Rise.” The band has been together since 2005, releasing six independent albums under the band name VMusic.
“Hope Will Rise” brings a new, synth and electronic sound, although the familiar guitar and driving percussion are still prominent. There are some really great songs on this album, such as the opening songs “Pulse” and “Freedom Fall.” Other standouts include the title cut “Hope Will Rise,” “Psalm 27” and “Linger.” These have some of the most touching and socially aware lyrics I’ve heard in a long time.
Unfortunately there are a few songs on the record that come across sounding like filler. Not bad, but not up to par with the overall quality of the album. This shouldn’t deter you from buying the record, because there is more than enough excellent stuff to compensate.
I look forward to the band’s next release. “Hope Will Rise” gives a compelling glimpse of what’s to come.
