A few weeks ago, 6-year-old Jamisyn Fleming brought a fistful of change to his parents and said he wanted to give all of it to “orphans and kids in need.” Later he told his mom, Christy, that he had gotten the idea after reading his Adventure Bible (Zondervan). A study question asked, “Why do we need to give money to help others?” Jamisyn considered the question and the Scripture, Luke 6:38, and felt led to give his change to children.
Jamisyn shared his plan with his church family at Edwardsville Baptist Church in Cleburne Baptist Association. Jamisyn told the older ladies at church he “just wanted to make God happy,” and they got on board with the pocket change offerings too. One of the women dubbed the plan “Jamisyn’s Dream,” and for several weeks church members have brought Jamisyn baggies filled with change. Jamisyn plans to give the change he collects to the Friendship House in Oxford, a ministry of the Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes & Family Ministries.
