Chilton Association’s Floyd Baptist marks 100 years

Floyd Baptist Church, Verbena, celebrated its centennial April 19 with a two-session service that concluded with the church’s oldest deacon, Sidney Hudman, opening a time capsule that included a hand-drawn picture of the church.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m., the Chilton Baptist Association church’s celebration featured a slideshow presentation with pictures of former pastors and members and special music by The Revelators, of Decatur. The oldest member of the church, Gladys Headley, was honored as she will be 100 years old in September.

Also during the morning session Alabama Baptist Historical Commission representative Bobby Joe Seales presented the church with a plaque. Sammy Gilbreath, director of the office of evangelism for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, spoke on the faithfulness of older members as seen in the living stones of 1 Peter 2:4. A covered dish lunch at noon provided a time of fellowship and the opportunity to take a group picture of all participants.

The Revelators performed a mini-concert at 1:30 p.m., wrapping up the festivities. Mike Lawrence is pastor.
