If you feel like your church has been missing the mark on making faithful and mature followers of Jesus Christ, there’s no time like the present to get a new plan.
That’s why the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions is offering a “Returning to Disciple-Making” tour at three locations around the state this August and September — to offer church leaders an opportunity to evaluate what they’ve been doing and learn new strategies they can implement.
Claude King, discipleship specialist at LifeWay Christian Resources, will lead the three events. King is best known as co-author of “Experiencing God” and “The Mind of Christ.”
“Jesus’ final command to His followers was to make disciples of all peoples and teach them to obey all He has commanded,” King said. “Somehow many churches have neglected the disciple-making task and we are suffering the consequences. We must recommit ourselves to equipping the saints for the work of the ministry of building up the body.”
In the past four years King has been the featured speaker for a number of disciple-making tour events in the state, and Randall Stoner, director of missions for Marshall Baptist Association, said King was incredibly helpful in mobilizing church leadership in Marshall Association to redouble their disciple-making efforts in their churches.
“We had a very convicting conference with Claude King,” Stoner said. “Everyone went away with a fresh desire to be a better faithful follower of Jesus Christ.”
After the Marshall Association event, one church leader told Stoner that his church “had never been so convicted of their need to draw closer to God before.”
“I highly recommend this conference to everyone,” Stoner said.
The conferences will be held in Montgomery at The Baptist Foundation of Alabama on Aug. 26, in Dothan at the Columbia Baptist Association office Aug. 27 and in Huntsville at Madison Baptist Association office Sept. 24. The event will be held 9:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. (See graphic at left for more details.)
