On Aug. 16, Sardis Springs Baptist Church, Athens, was “celebrating the past” as it “sieged the future” as the service marked 100 years of ministry, church secretary Cassandra Montgomery said.
At the 10:45 a.m. service former member Donnie Browning led music and Jack Bailey, former member and current pastor of First Baptist Church, Danville, brought a message. Also Joe Teal, Alabama Baptist Historical Commission representative, commended the Limestone Baptist Association church for its years of service.
Following lunch, the more than 400 participants gathered for a 1:45 p.m. service for a time of sharing and recognition. Among those recognized were descendants of charter members, former pastors and former staff members. Various Sardis Springs Baptist musical groups performed and congregation members shared about their memories of the church in 3-minute increments.
Tim Keenum is pastor.
