St. Clair DOM Chandler announces retirement

Ben Chandler has announced his retirement as director of missions for St. Clair Baptist Association effective Jan. 31, 2016.

In 1967, Chandler was already serving as a lay person in a Baptist church in Florida when he attended a Spiritual Life Conference at Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly, North Carolina, and surrendered to the call God had placed on his life.

In 1969, he married Patricia Harrell. They met through ministry, working with a youth evangelism group, and have served God together in Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Ohio and Florida.

Chandler served eight churches during a 28-year period. In Alabama he served at Springfield Baptist Church, Brundidge, while attending Troy State University (now Troy University) and First Baptist Church, Dawes, in Mobile. He then served as director of missions for Tennessee River Baptist Association from 1997 to 2004 and has served as director of missions for St. Clair Association since 2004. He plans to serve as an intentional interim pastor or in a bivocational role with a church or other Southern Baptist organization.

The couple plans to spend much more time with their grandchildren, and Chandler plans to write, paint and do some overdue fishing.
