Taits Gap centennial service remembers past

Taits Gap Baptist Church, Oneonta, marked its centennial with a celebration service Aug. 21.

It was a time to remember and honor the past, and former pastors James Earl Pate and Glen Elrod were present to share their experiences. The 10 a.m. service also featured a reading of the first business meeting minutes and church founding by Charity Cleveland, as well as a reading of the church history by Randa Prince. Special music for the service was provided by a trio consisting of Eddy Hill, Mike Hill and Carlene Moorer, all members of the Blount Baptist Association church.

Two special presentations were made. Gerald Glenn, Alabama Baptist Historical Commission representative, presented a plaque to the church, and Annie Ruth Roberts was recognized for being the longest member of Taits Gap Baptist.

A display of historic pictures of Taits Gap also was set up for participants to view. Neal Whited is pastor.
