Deceased member of Bethany Baptist Church inspires missions giving

Elza Josephine “Jodi” Hamlin was always thinking of others. The longtime organist at Bethany Baptist Church, Reece City, Hamlin was known for sending cards to church members, bringing them food and, as the church’s missions director, inspiring them to think of the work being done for the Lord around the world.

Hamlin especially encouraged members to give to the Myers-Mallory State Missions Offering. And when she died Aug. 27, her fellow church members recalled her excitement about the new offering, giving $1,200 in honor of Hamlin and the Christ she served.

“Jodi did not live until Sept. 18 for the Myers-Mallory celebration, so our church decided to fulfill her last request and put a special emphasis on the offering,” church member Linda Ables said, noting there were only about nine members at the small church to give to the offering that Sunday. (TAB)
