Goliath Must Fall: Winning the Battle Against Your Giants
Louie Giglio. Nashville: W Publishing, 2017. 249 pp. (Paperback).
We all know the story of David and Goliath. How the little shepherd boy beat the odds and killed the giant who had taunted the Israelites day after day, causing them to quake in fear. They knew none of them could take the huge Philistine down. What the big boys forgot, but David knew, was that an itty-bitty giant was nothing to the God of Israel.
Louie Giglio has reopened that old story in this book and unpacks its truths for today. The author stays with the theme of the greatness of God from his famous video. (If you haven’t watched the video, do a search for it on YouTube and watch it. Trust me on this one — do it now, before you forget.) In this book, Giglio points out that while we may not face literal giants, we all face challenges that just will not leave us alone — that keep us crippled and cowed.
Of course, we know the answer: God is bigger than our giants. But don’t let the simplicity of the big picture keep you from drilling down into the twists and turns with Giglio as he explores how dependency on Jesus can lead to the slaying of our giants. Or, as he puts it, MUST lead to the slaying of our giants.
