More than 200 people gathered at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Gordo, to celebrate its 175-year anniversary Sept. 23.
Guest speakers for the special service included Mike Owen, the son of a former pastor; Lyle Dease, associational mission strategist for Pickens Baptist Association; and Scott Manderson and Ray Martin from Faith Riders.
Special music was shared by minister of music Keith Mullenix, Tammy Hall and Jennifer Spencer.
Angie Cooper from the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission presented the church with a certificate.
A video of children depicting the historical beginnings of the church and audio testimonies of people who were baptized in the church’s outdoor baptistry were played.
The church also acknowledged former pastors and the members of the church who have gone out from the church into full-time ministry.
“It was an awesome day with great memories,” Pastor Glenn Sandifer said. (TAB)
