Matt Chandler, pastor of The Village Church in Flower Mound, Texas, announced Aug. 28 he is taking a “leave of absence” after violating the church’s social media use policies.
Chandler will also step aside from his responsibilities as president and chairman of the board of the Acts 29 church-planting network, according to a statement from Acts 29.
Chandler and the church acknowledged he had exchanged messages with a woman not his wife that were not “romantic or sexual in nature” but were “unbefitting” of a lead pastor and elder.
When the messages came to light, church elders determined a leave of absence, deemed both “disciplinary and developmental,” was a necessary course of action.
