Don Wigand of Bovis Construction (left) speaks with Alabama Baptist disaster relief team members Jim Stewart (center) of Bluff Springs Baptist Church, Ashford, and O’Neal Robinson of Heritage Baptist Church, Dothan, at the site of the World Trade Center disaster.
Stewart and Robinson were part of a 22-member team serving meals and providing a listening ear in New York City May 27 through June 5. They were among the last volunteers to help at Ground Zero as the search efforts officially closed May 30.
Alabama Baptists were one of many organizations involved in a nine-month, 3 million-meal effort spearheaded by the Salvation Army, to provide meals and spiritual encouragement to beleaguered rescue workers. Since Sept. 11, Alabama Baptist teams have also been involved in chaplaincy ministry and apartment cleanup.
