Alabama Baptists travel for missions

Guatemala was the site of a missions trip July 2–9 for eight members of Eden Westside Baptist Church, Pell City. The team worked at Casa Para Niños Aleluya, a nondenominational children’s home, doing everything from painting to giving the girls lice treatments.

They spent a lot of time with the children teaching Bible lessons, playing and giving them one-on-one attention that is hard to come by in a home with a few hundred children.

Eighteen people, ranging in age from 14 to 80, from Fulton Road Baptist Church, Mobile, traveled to Brownsville, Texas, July 30–Aug.6.

The team traveled to Matamoros, Mexico, each day to work and witness. They completed two small houses for families who had never had a house before and were living in makeshift housing without doors or walls. The church raised enough funds to finish one house by painting it and supplying the family with its first refrigerator.

They also raised enough to cover work on the other house including electrical work, Sheetrock, an interior wall and painting inside and out, as well as purchasing a refrigerator and a fan.

The group also did door-to-door witnessing, passing out about 100 Spanish Bibles, as well as hundreds of tracts and witnessing bracelets, among other things. About 20 decisions were made.

Alice Pettyjohn returned to her hometown of Henager in August after spending the past two years as an International Mission Board journeyman in Thailand.

Pettyjohn, a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, Auburn, served in a rural area in the northern part of the country among the Isaan people. She taught English, sports and other activities.

Members of Shades Mountain Baptist Church, Vestavia Hills, traveled to Ukraine Sept. 1–10 and were involved in multiple missions opportunities including business seminars, medical clinic teams, sports evangelism and tent revivals.

From Sept. 14–18, a team from Shades Mountain traveled to Las Vegas to prayer walk, survey neighborhoods and help host block parties in preparation for a new church plant.

Canaan Baptist Church, Bessemer, sent a team of five to Belize Aug. 27–Sept. 3.

First Baptist Church, Montgomery, sponsored a missions excursion to Botswana Sept. 5–16. The team of six was involved in prayer walking and helping to open new areas of work.

A team from MeadowBrook Baptist Church, Gadsden, traveled to Argentina for a missions trip Sept. 10–16.

Friendship Baptist Church, Grand Bay, had members travel to Friendship Baptist Church, Hardinsburg, Ky., Sept. 11–17 to help in the construction of a new auditorium. (TAB)
