Alabama disaster relief units help in Midwest

Alabama Baptist disaster relief teams  have been part of the cleanup efforts happening in Kansas after waters began receding in the flood-ravaged Midwest.

Teams from Covington Baptist Association, Sand Mountain Baptist Association, Colbert-Lauderdale Baptist Association and Mud Creek Baptist Association left July 11 and worked with mud-out efforts in Osawatomie, Kan., for about 10 days.

The mud-out work, which is the removal of mud and other debris from houses and buildings following a flood, “is probably the most dangerous of disaster relief response,” said Tommy Puckett, director of Alabama Baptist disaster relief work.

Covington Association volunteers also took their laundry unit to provide assistance for the community and relief workers.

At press time, two other Alabama teams were on standby for potential deployment.
