Alabama evangelist arrested on child sex charges

Evangelist, youth speaker and former youth pastor Acton Bowen was arrested April 10 in Hoover on child sex charges.

Bowen, 37, founder of Acton Bowen Outreach Ministries based in Etowah County, was arrested by Hoover police.

Bowen is charged with three counts of sex crimes involving a child between the ages of 12 and 16.

He was released from the Jefferson County Jail on April 11 on a $90,300 bond.

Hoover police Capt. Gregg Rector said in a statement that detectives began investigating the case three weeks ago.

Arrest warrants were obtained April 9 from the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

The victim is a family acquaintance, Rector said, adding that no further details will be released because of the age of the victim and sensitive nature of the case.

Denying charges

In a press statement released April 11, Bowen denied the charges, saying he “was hurt, confused and heartbroken” by the accusations. He said he believes he will be vindicated and asked for prayers during the process.

Rector said anyone with information about this case or the suspect is encouraged to call Special Victim’s Unit detective Brandon Harris at 205-444-7742. (TAB)
