Judson Jones, pastor emeritus of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Hueytown, died April 7 at the age of 90.
Jones became the 23rd pastor of Pleasant Ridge in 1944 and retired in 1978 at age 65.
During his pastorate of 33 years, the church’s membership grew by 800.
For many years after retiring he served as interim pastor in several churches and remained active at Pleasant Ridge.
The church’s senior adult prayer fellowship is named the Judson Jones Prayer Fellowship, and he rarely missed a meeting.
The prayer room at Pleasant Ridge Church is also named in his honor as the Judson Jones Prayer Room.
Jones earned degrees from both Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.
Jones, who resided in Hueytown before his death, grew up in Hackneyville and was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
Jones is survived by his wife, Dixie Jones; son, Judson Jones; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
