BIRMINGHAM — Passport, Inc., which is headquartered in Birmingham, has hired Alabama Baptist pastor Nick Foster to serve as the director of a new program and to coordinate one of Passport’s summer camp teams. The new program, called The Samuel Project, is funded with a $2 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. and aims to identify and enlist high school and college youth for vocational ministry. The Samuel Project is the result of a partnership with Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond.
Foster most recently served as pastor of University Baptist Church, Montevallo, for eight years. He previously served as youth minister at First Baptist Church of Knoxville, Tennessee. A graduate of Samford University, Foster holds a master of divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. His wife, Gail, is a fifth grade teacher at Calera Elementary School. The Fosters have two children: John-Paul, a freshman at Furman University and Justin, a freshman at Montevallo High School.
In addition to his duties with The Samuel Project, Foster will coordinate one of Passport’s summer camp teams and serve as the administrative liaison to the agencies Passport supports through the missions projects for all the summer camps.
Passport, In. president David Burroughs said, “Nick is uniquely qualified to help us tell the story of The Samuel Project and has a passion for helping young people discover the call of God on their lives. We are excited about Nick joining the Passport administrative staff.”
