Alabamian named to NAMB search committee

DENVER — Larry Gipson, pastor of First Baptist Church, Oneonta, was named to the newly appointed eight-member North American Mission Board (NAMB) presidential search committee. The committee, which will be chaired by Ted Traylor, pastor of Olive Baptist Church, Pensacola, Fla., was named Oct. 7 during the trustee meeting in Denver.               

Also on the committee: Doug Dieterly, executive pastor of Plymouth Baptist Church, Indiana; Lisa Knutsen, member of Green Valley Baptist Church, Henderson, Nev.; Ryan Palmer, pastor of Seventh Metro Church, Baltimore, Md.; Chuck Herring, pastor of Collierville First Baptist Church, Tennessee; and Tim Dowdy, pastor of Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church, McDonough, Ga.

NAMB chairman Tim Patterson, who is pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Fla., will serve as an ex officio member of the committee. Appointment of the search committee comes two months after Geoff Hammond came under pressure to resign Aug. 11.
