The new school year is well on its way, and Sept. 24 Alabama teenagers from all walks of life joined more than 3 million students worldwide for See You at the Pole (SYATP).
“We always ask them to pray for their school, their community, country and the world around them,” said Matt Wilson, area director of First Priority of Alabama, which coordinates the state’s prayer rallies. “But we also encourage them to pray for their fellow students, teachers and the lost that they come in contact with.”
Last year, thousands of Alabama students participated in the event. At press time, Wilson expected more teenagers than last year at this year’s event.
“The groups have gotten so large that it seems that in most places the groups are broken into smaller groups, and they are led in praying by student-leaders on the campus,” Wilson said.
This year’s theme, “Connect” was based on 1 Samuel 3:9.
“Samuel connected to the Lord when he was young and stayed connected with Him his whole life,” Wilson said. “That is what we are trying to encourage kids to do.”
According to the SYATP Web site, student-initiated and student-led rallies are held in all 50 states, as well as in 20 countries on six continents. (TAB)
